CW Vrtacek : Now Available
Charles Vrtacek (O'Meara) the erstwhile selfproclaimed 'president of the avantguarde' and more recently guitarist/composer of Forever Einstein made this serious/funny parody of The Residents somewhere in the early 80's (when they were still meaning something), around the time of his 1st two fine home-made solo albums Victory Through Grace and Days And Days. Very brief (10+ mins) cassette only rarity. And curiosity.

Anybody can plagurize the Residents' sound, after the fact. The sad truth is that if the Residents had never recorded, this musician would never have been able to come up with music this unusual on his own.

i agree, but i think mr.vrtacek is at least as much appreciating them here as he is mocking.
the residents were really something in those early days - i will never forget how, as an unsuspicious 15 years old,i found a review of their 1st three albums in a music magazine, and just the look at the covers scared the hell out of me! it took me some time to trace down their albums and then some more to get into them.
oh, the good old days...

hi i'm C.W. Vrtacek, the guy who created the Residents parody. my real legal name by the way is Charles O'Meara.
let's get a few things straight...by the time i did the residents parody i had already recorded two solo albums, i didn't "copy" the residents sound, it isn't representative of what i do, it was JOKE because i know "the inidividuals responsible" for the residents sound, i.e., i knew "their real names"...so it was just an inside joke that circulated to some friends at the time...chris cutler, david thomas, a few others i forget, probably fred frith...
in a lot of ways i wish i had never done that thing because people keep digging it up without realizing that i've recorded BUNCH of solo albums, that i'm a member of Biota, that i've collaborated with Nick Didkovsky, Chris Cutler, Steve MacLean, Thomas DiMuzio and others and released five albums with my band Forever Einstein...

THis so funny - i had no idea i wanted someone to mock the resident. I love when he sings in that "Davy & Goliath" Voice " It sounds like the Residents To Me" And he's fuckin right.too.
